Threaded Memories: A Stitching Art Keepsake Workshop

$75.00

Many of us value our photos because of the memories they hold with the people and experiences we cherish. This workshop is a place to transform your photograph into a meaningful, personalized art piece while sharing memories and creating art in real time with a supportive community.

Blue Pines Counseling is located minutes away from Cedarburg’s vibrant downtown community at the restored Blacksmith Shop on the Wisconsin Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum Campus.

Workshop Details

The workshop will begin with obtaining your 4x6 photograph that has been transferred onto cotton fabric. Participants will then observe their photograph, reflect on the memories it holds, and decide how they would like to create on top of it. The next step will be to start stitching or embroidering on the photo based on personal experience working with sewing materials. Participants will be encouraged to add personal touches beyond thread, such as buttons, shells, charms, and natural materials. While creating, participants will be invited to engage with other members of the group by sharing their memories and stories.

Once the photograph is complete, participants will observe their piece and consider making a poem or free writing about their memories. In closing, participants can use a thrifted frame provided to display their finished piece or take home your final piece to add to another textile project. This workshop will offer a creative journey where you can craft a beautiful keepsake that tells a piece of your personal journey. Whether you’re making a family heirloom or a unique piece of art, this workshop will provide a space to connect with your memories and express them through stitching, while also connecting with those around you!

There is a limit of 5 participants per workshop. Light refreshments will be provided; however, the workshop is studio-based, so additional needs can be met in Cedarburg’s downtown area.
